With domestic ski resorts already filling up for the 2022 season, many are heading across the pond to hit the slopes. Check out this list of European ski destinations based on a North American equivalent.
Whistler vs. Les Deux Alpes—If the wide-open spaces and high-elevation skiing of Whistler are what you like, you’ll love Les Deux Alpes. Located southwest of Grenoble, it’s the largest skiable glacier in Europe and France’s second oldest ski resort after Chamonix. When you’re not on slopes, enjoy a hearty meal of fondue or raclette in town.
Aspen vs. Zermatt — If the luxury accommodations and fine dining of Aspen are what you expect during your ski vacation, Zermatt is an excellent alternative on the other side of the pond. Situated in the shadow of the iconic Matterhorn, this Swiss resort town is known for its luxury shopping, five-star hotels, and of course, world-class skiing.
Beaver Creek vs. Cortina D’Ampezzo — Beaver Creek is known for the variety of its activities and family-friendly atmosphere. A European equivalent is easily Cortina D’Ampezzo. Located in northern Italy near the Austrian border, this resort town hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956. With a children’s slope and famous toboggan run, it’s the perfect place to bring the little ones.
